i bought an arch and i wanted to grow a vine on it. i want it to be covered...so what grows very fast?
What is the fastest growing vine ??
English Ivy grows extremely fast.
Reply:Be very, very careful. Fast growing plants do just that -grow fast. Therefore, you will have an uncontrollable weed.
Would it not be better to have a more controllable plant coupled with patience?
A nice alternative is Malabar Spinach, Basella alba, ('spinach' in that it is edible). It is a very beautiful hot weather plant -luxurious dark green leaves on top and VIVID purple leaves on bottom and on stems. Nice lavender colored flowers. Nice black berry-looking seeds. It grows about six inches/day. It tastes just like spinach either raw or cooked (although it is a bit more slimy when eaten raw). I grow it for food, but my fiance keeps putting it out on the front porch because it is so attractive.
It grows fast, like a weed, but you can eat it to keep it in check. Supposedly, a family of four can eat all season from just one vine.
Reply:I don't know the real term name but it is also called "the wondering jew. It's a real pretty green/purple foliage. It grows fast!!
Reply:Morning Glories...will quickly fill a trellis in early spring from seed...and great flowers too!
Confederate Jasmine is a bit slower but results in a hardier (year round and low maintenance) vine.
