i have justgot a grape vine and i have no idea how to look after one. the question i ask is ,feeding and planting and training it against a wall for best growth and fruit
I have a ;vitus brant grant vine?
Goodness darling that is not such an easy question to answer. One thing I will tell you is this, if you want quality fruit, letting it grow against a wall or up a trellis will not give you quality fruit. For good fruit you really need to prune back sharply every year once the leaves die. The best fruit comes from vines that are really no bigger then a mid size bush when in fruit, about waist high.
I don't want to get to involved because the answer could go on forever, and depends where you are and soil quality where you are. But your soil must be well composted, and you should use natural farm yard compost. It must really be well rotted, if it's too fresh it could burn the roots. Also you must dig down deep because the compost must be deep.
The other thing is does your plant still need to develop in the pot or is it ready for planting out.
Goodness it's so difficult to answer like this. Perhaps do some research on the internet.
But always remember one thing with any plant. Basically nature takes care of itself. Plants grow in the ground. Break them or pull branches off etc., they grow back again. Nature is amazing and it's easy to get carried away with how to care for them. But if you do want quality fruit then that is a different matter and you do need to do it properly.
Gosh such a long answer yet I've told you nothing. You really need to do some research and the internet is a mine of information. Good luck, I hope both you and the plant do well, but my thoughts are mainly for the plant, LOL I love them.
Reply:build like a square trellis that sits out so when it grows it can go over the other side so it gets sun light, when the vine gets a little tall where you can tie it up against the trellis after that it will do it on its own
