What is a good wind resistant vine?

I am looking to put up a trellis to screen an air conditioner and want to plant a vine of some sort. Because of the direction of the vents, one side (of a two sided screen) will be blown every time the air is on. The area is full to mostly sun (full sun until noon or one), the sun light coming in is not intense but the area is concrete so the air heats up. We are 20 miles inland, in Southern California reaching highs of 100s and lows of 40s. Not Ivy. And not thorny. If you need any other info let me know. Thanks

You have said not ivy, but the toughest vine would be English Ivy. The problem with it is that it is very invasive. Trumpet Vines are also tough as well as Morning glory. Trumpet vines attract hummingbirds. I am from an area of the United States prone to hot southwest winds. All three varieties do very well in harsh conditions. Virgina creeper is also tough. Reply:How about cat's claw? That stuff grew on our back fence in Arizona and was TOUGH! As well as pretty, with it's yellow flowers.
